Belleville Fire Department Asst. Chief J.P. Penet gave a presentation on the Christmas Tree burns they did the week before at a house they acquired that is scheduled for demolition. They burned two Christmas trees in two separate rooms of the house. One room had residential fire sprinklers installed by Boyer Fire Protection. The trees were burned and filmed by cameras in each room. Heat sensors were placed in each room to record the temperatures.
The tree in the sprinklered room was burned but the sprinkler system kept the fire in check. The temperature at the ceiling level stayed below 200 degrees. The tree in the unsprinklered room continued to burn with ceiling temperatures reaching over 1200 degrees. There was a dramatic difference in the two burns. Thank you to Boyer Fire Protection for providing the residential sprinkler coverage for the demonstration.
Awards were presented at this meeting.
Paul Richard received the Bill Fox Award for his years of service and dedication to training.
The Metro Fire Marshals Association’s Educator of the Year Award was presented to retiring Fire Marshal Steve Gettemeier and to Tech Electronics’ Stephanie Maniaci-Michaels for their efforts in promoting and providing training to members of the organization.
