With multiple fires in the building early Saturday morning June 15, 2019, St. Louis firefighters arrived at a plastics warehouse to discover that the fire sprinkler system was already helping them fight the fire.
A total of five sprinklers discharged water onto the intentionally-set fires, located in several different areas of the 130,000 square foot plastic fabrication facility and distribution center. “This was a successful operation of the fire protection system,” Deputy Chief Brian Walsh of the St. Louis Fire Department said when asked about the building’s fire sprinklers. Twelve units and about 50 firefighters responded to the 2nd Alarm fire and worked to extinguish remaining hot spots and remove the smoke from the building, while a 3rd Alarm waited in staging in case they were needed. No injuries were reported.
